As a passionate and experienced instructor of art classes and workshops, I’ve had the privilege of working with countless students who initially felt apprehensive about diving into the world of art. However, with patience, encouragement, and a nurturing environment, they quickly discovered the joy and satisfaction that comes from creating art.

While most of the attention around Post-War women artists like Lee Krasner and Perle Fine focuses other painting – especially Abstract Expressionism – many of them also explored printmaking, particularly as the medium became more accessible in the 1950s and 60s thanks to print workshops like Tamarind Lithography Workshop and Universal Limited Art Editions (ELAE).

In General – Postwar Women Artists & Prints
Many of he women associated with Abstract Expressionism explored:
Lithography – a popular for its painterly and gestural potential.
Etching and aquatint – used for subtle tonal variations and fine line work.
Screenprinting – especially in the 60s and 70s, as it became more accessible and linked with design and modernism.
Monotype – for those interested in one-of-a-kind images, closely tied to painting (you’d love this given your work!).
Course:
Session 1: Lee Krasner (1908-1984): Fragment & Flow (trace monotype + collage)
Session 2: Perle Fine (1905-1988): Order & Intuition (geometric overlays + monotype)
Session 3: Louise Nevelson (1899-1988): Texture & Mystery (collagraphs)
Session 4: Hedda Sterne (1910-2011): Motion & Transformation (faux drypoint)
As there’s a lot to unpack in this course we will be undoubtedly look at several other women of the group.
