It’s Never Too Late to Start Something You Love

I didn’t start painting until I was 54.

At the time, I wasn’t looking for a new career. I was interviewing for jobs and considering my next step. Then one morning I woke up with a simple thought:

“Wait a minute. I’m going to paint. Why not?”

I had always wanted to paint, but life had taken me in other directions. Career. Family. Responsibilities. Like many people, I assumed there would be time later.

Fortunately, later arrived.

That one decision led me to a completely unexpected chapter of life. I became an artist, an art instructor, and eventually built a career helping others explore their own creativity.

The lesson wasn’t really about painting.

It was about beginning.

Many people wait for the perfect time to start something they’ve always wanted to do. They wait until they have more confidence, more certainty, or a clearer plan.

In my experience, confidence rarely comes first.

It grows after we take the first step.

Whether it’s painting, writing, gardening, learning a language, or pursuing a long-forgotten dream, the benefits extend far beyond the activity itself.

When we engage in something meaningful, we reconnect with curiosity, purpose, and a deeper sense of ourselves.

It’s never too late to begin.

Sometimes one small step is enough to change the direction of your life.
