When Something Is Calling

Words & paint by Elisabeth Vismans

Let’s be honest. Wanting to start something creative, like painting, or finally exploring that quiet voice inside, can stir up more resistance than you expect.

Maybe you’ve looked at classes. Maybe you’ve even bought the brushes. But something holds you back.

What if you choose the wrong class? What if the instructor doesn’t get what you’re really looking for? What if the pace is all wrong, or the vibe feels off?

And deeper still: What if you show up and you’re the least experienced one there? What if everyone else seems confident, talented, and fully in their flow, while you’re still figuring out how to mix colors?

These aren’t just painting fears. They’re human ones: the fear of being judged, of not being seen, of feeling behind.

But what if starting could feel different?

What if painting didn’t have to be about being “good enough,” but about feeling present? What if the process mattered more than the product?

That’s what I offer.

In my world, we use painting as a way to reconnect, not just with creativity, but with yourself. Whether you’re in one of my online classes, joining a retreat, or working with me through creative coaching, you’ll find something rare: a space where you can start exactly where you are, and be fully welcomed.

This isn’t about formulas. It’s about freedom.

Whether you’re painting intuitively, abstractly, or learning the basics of acrylics, it’s not about perfection. It’s about permission.

Five Ways to Cross That Invisible Line

From holding back to creative momentum

 1. Step Over the Line

That invisible line between watching and doing? You’re closer than you think. Sometimes all it takes is the right nudge, the right voice, or just one moment of saying yes.

2. Ditch the “Talent” Myth

Ever walk through a gallery and think, “Wow, I wish I could do that” or “What a talent”? Here’s the secret: it’s not just talent. It’s mindset. It’s practice. It’s permission. And it’s possible for you, too.

3. Learn to See Differently

Painting isn’t just a skill, it’s a shift in perspective. You’ll learn to notice form, light, and space differently. But more importantly, you’ll learn to see yourself differently. This is holistic painting. It changes how you think, how you feel, and how you show up.

4. Build a Rhythm That Feels Good

Creative momentum doesn’t come from pushing through. It comes from learning to return. From noticing when you’re tense, distracted, or avoiding, and gently coming back. This isn’t about overcoming fear. It’s about building trust.

5. Make What Feels True

Whether you’re drawn to intuitive painting, abstract work, or want to rediscover what made you love art in the first place, this is about expression. About painting what feels real. Honest. Yours.

So, knowing how mindset and creative habits can shift everything is one thing. Actually stepping into it, and reaping those rewards?

That takes a different kind of courage.

But don’t worry. I’m here to help.

Why This Isn’t Another Old School Art Class

If you’ve ever sat in an art class copying the teacher’s brushstrokes and wondering, “Is this it?” you’re not alone.
Old-school teaching methods focus on the product, not the process, and not the person. I teach differently. Here’s how:

Old-School Teachers

Copy my painting, follow the formula Everything is the same

❌ Focus on the “right” way Perfection over personal expression

Talent is fixed  You’ve either got it or you don’t

Avoid mistakes at all costs Stay inside the lines

Critique-heavy, stiff environment Feeling judged/left behind

My Approach

Trust your own voice Find your unique rhythm and style

Focus on what matters to you Intuition, play & joy come first

Creativity is innate Anyone can learn to paint

✅ Make glorious messes Layer, experiment, unexpected welcome

✅ Warm, encouraging space Classes filled with support & growth
